What to Avoid When Trying to Lose Weight on the Paleo Diet
If you want to lose weight on the paleo diet, here are some things to avoid:
There are healthy sources of carbs, including certain veggies. It’s important to eat small portions of carbs, just enough to provide the energy you need daily. The paleo diet is not a zero carb diet. Healthy portions of complex carbs such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. should be part of your diet.
Too Many Calories
Losing weight is about reducing your calorie intake. If your intake of calories, whether from healthy foods or not, is more than what your body needs, there’ll be storage of excess carbs as fats. Make sure you keep your calorie-consumption in check.
You cannot eat too many proteins in a paleo diet. The recommendation for proteins is only a third of your plate.
Mono-saturated fats like those you get from healthy nuts are acceptable. Also, only consume meat from pasture-fed animals. You can get fats from avocado, olive oil, nuts, seeds and coconut oil; avoid such foods.
Overlooking Lost Nutrients
Foods you often ignore but included in a paleo diet such as dairy, legumes and grains are nutritious, adding to your nutrient intake. It is important to check with your nutritionist if you are losing any nutrients so you can find a way to replace them.
Going paleo is not easy, but with proper planning, your paleo diet weight loss goals can be achieved. Do not be too hard on yourself, following a diet plan you got online because what works for someone else might not work for you.
