About a month ago, our Chief Caveman, Kara, gave a tour to the IAF (Investment Agriculture Foundation) of our facility where we make all of our ready made meals. It was a great opportunity to show off why Caveman Grocer is one of the leading meal delivery services. We talked about our strict ingredients policy, ahead of the curve e-commerce strategies and culinary skills that are allowing for rapid growth. It was a really neat experience to meet BC farmers, producers and small business owners. One of our greatest takeaways was getting an introduction to quite a few farmers who were raising their animals on grass only diets, living their lives out to pasture. As you know, this fits in with our strict paleo ingredients policy.
Meet the Freith Farm, a family of 5 (2 super cute dogs included) who have dedicated their lives to raising pasture lambs, sustainability. Their farm is located 40 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC. They use a three-tiered breeding system, developed over 100's of years from the UK. The flock includes purebred Clun Forest ewes, purebred Bluefaced Leister rams, and the Clun Mules this cross produces. The sheep are suited to the harsher temperatures experienced at higher elevation, produce twins, and thrive on the natural grass forage.
Coming this fall, we are expecting 10 whole lambs. We will be breaking down the lamb and using every piece we can, respecting the whole animal. We are still working out which frozen & fresh meals will feature this lamb, but it will be a small, one time only run. More details on this will follow in the coming weeks. We couldn't wait to tell you about our new farmer! Locally raised, grass fed lamb from BC, can you think of anything better?
